Walking Tour in Coyoacán

This walking tour takes you to the Churubusco former convent from the 16th century, where memories are kept from the US-Mexico war of 1847 at this actual battle-site. As we walk through the traditional neighborhood of Coyoacán we will visit the living quarters and fortress against the KGB where Leon Trotsky, Soviet Union and Red Army founder, lived, died and is buried in exile while we learn about his relationship to Frida Kahlo who lived a few blocks away. Tour ends at the entrance to Kahlo´s home that you may visit on your own as tickets for her house have to be bought separately and in advance.

Visit a 16th century former convent, the historical site of the Churubusco Battle of the Mexican-American War and the Hideout of one of the founders of the Soviet Union and the Red Army at the heart of Mexico in a 1.5 mile, 3 hour walk!

This tour takes through the borough of Coyoacán and ends at the entrance of Frida Kahlo´s Home (Kahlo´s home has to be visited separately). Amaze yourself with the exhibits from the wars that Mexico has fought to defend its territory from Spain, France, the United Kingdom and the United States. See the true site of a battle fought between Mexican and U.S. forces while gazing through the memorabilia through a different point of view..

Travel back in time to the early 20th century as Leon Trotsky chose Mexico City while living in exile and hiding from Stalin´s KGB. Wander past beautiful gardens and visit Trotsky´s Tomb under the Soviet Flag. Enjoy the house and patios while understanding daily life through the appliances used at the turn of the 20th century. Learn of the fear and assasination atempts while discovering the watch towers.

Walk the modern side of Coyoacán and learn of the lifestyle in this unique neighborhood. Discover the proximity, friendship and affair between Leon Trotsky and Frida Kahlo while walking to her home that she shared with her husband, muralist Diego Rivera.

YOUR TOUR HOST​

Your host will be wearing a yellow shirt and cap. All of our hosts are local natives from Mexico City, speak at least two languages and have different college degrees related to the tours, are trained in first aid procedures and are willing to help you with those special questions that may arise on your visit. Some of our hosts are also nationally licensed tour guides.

 

SCHEDULE / WEATHER / DETOURS

Arrive on time, our visit begins at 11:00 AM on the dot, we will appreciate if you show up 15 minutes in advance. Tour ends at 2:00 PM.

The duration of our tour is approximately 3 hours, rain or shine, depending on the size of the group. In case of rain, our tour will make its best to spend as much time as possible indoors. In case of unforseen closure of streets or venues, we are always prepared with an equivalent or alternate route. 

THE TOUR

On this tour you will visit the 16th century former convent of Churubusco, site of a battle of the Mexican-American War, the National Museum of Foreign Interventions, the former fortified residence of Leon Trotsky and his tomb. This visit will take you through almost two centuries of history of the unique borough of Coyoacán. 

VERY IMPORTANT NOTICE

 

Due to the ceremonial nature of the buildings to be visited, we may encounter temporary closures at any time so we are always prepared with an alternate and equivalent route as we may never guarantee the access to the public venues.

Food, drinks, backpacks, big bags, umbrellas, selfie sticks and flash photography are not allowed in any of the buildings, if you are carrying some of these, the entrance may not be permitted.

END POINT / FACILITIES / TRANSPORTATION

Visits do not return to the starting point; Tour ends at the entrance to Frida Kahlo´s Home at 247 Londres Street. 

 

Your host will always remain with you until he makes sure everyone has the right directions and/or help for their next destination.

 

CANCELLATION POLICY

 

In case you need to cancel, please let us know ASAP in writing or, if on same day, by phone at +52 (55) 1355-2122 (whatsapp-enabled). In case we have to miss you, we will be very grateful if you save us extra efforts. If you don't cancel and don't show up for the tour, we will understand that you are forfeiting your right to any refund and to re-book. There are no refunds on partial and/or full advance payments for paid or private tours if you don't cancel at least seven days before the tour. If you cancel at least seven days in advance, there will be a 20% processing fee charge.    

IMPORTANT

 

1. Tour is by reservation only.  

2. Please wear comfortable walking shoes and come as light as possible, this is one long walk.

3. Wear something to protect you from the sun; cap, shades, sunscreen, even if it's cloudy.

4. Bring a camera, we love to show you little treasures.
